Researchers at Inha University in Korea and Texas A&M University have discovered that cellulose is piezoelectric and will flap when exposed to an electric field. Delicate sheets of cellulose with electrodes attached could be used to make microrobots, biodegradable sensors, and paper airplanes that flap like birds.
