From the New York Times comes an editorial about the responsibility engineers hold to assure end users safety. Disasters appear to provide the clearest examples of engineering culpability; Challenger, New Orleans, Kansas City Hyatt, etc. Although the need to assure safety is always paramount, the answer is always complicated by issues of leadership, time, money, and politics.
