The Mayo Clinic's SPARC lab is driving experimentation in health care and patient experience. How? By getting physicians to think more like designers, and by testing out unfinished ideas and procedures with actual patients.
"Medicine has changed, people have changed, technology has changed, but the exam room isn't so different than it was in the 1800s."
They're prototying kiosks for check-in to improve upon waiting room hell. And they are listening to patients and reviewing one-page info sheets with them. They're practicing empath, which their cameras and team brainstorm sessions confirm. Design-thinking - it really works.
